The Freeth, Herefordshire
Client: Private client
The Freeth is a recently restored, Grade II listed farmhouse with far-reaching views across completely unspoiled Herefordshire countryside.
We were commissioned to produce a landscape masterplan which would take account of existing garden features and mature trees, and connect the various parts of the garden together, giving a sense of flow and movement around the grounds. We subsequently worked closely with the client to develop the detailed planting plan for a woodland garden to one side of the lawn.
From a generous paved dining terrace outside the house, views extend across the new oval lawn through an orchard to the open countryside beyond. A gravel path forms a circuit walk around the lawn, backed with a mixed shrub border. The woodland garden has been created beneath a belt of existing trees, with a narrow path winding through beds of shade tolerant shrubs, ferns and herbaceous plants.
