Tregothnan Estate, Cornwall

Client: The Hon EAH Boscawen

RMA designed a dramatic new parterre for the south terrace at Tregothnan with views across the Repton deer park to the River Fal beyond. The design draws its inspiration from the wider parkland landscape and the visual elements within it of grass, simple planting and water. These elements have been brought together in a formal manner to respond to the architecture of the house and are based loosely on the idea of the Parterre à l’Anglais.

The garden was constructed over the remnants of a Victorian garden by W.A.Nesfield, the topography of which remains undisturbed beneath the new garden, protected by a layer of sand.
