Uppingham School, Rutland
Client: Uppingham School
The practice has designed a new quad for the school, between the new science block and existing art block. The school now has an attractive yet robust central green space which provides a predominantly green heart with legible circulation and areas for formal school events and student relaxation.
An avenue of trees leads from the quad to a tiered amphitheatre which provides a setting for plays and concerts and a resource for outdoor teaching. To the south and at first floor level a roof terrace provides an external science classroom and break-out space. This garden can be accessed from the teaching laboratories and is designed to complement the curriculum by providing appropriate planting and pond areas for study.
