Station Square, Cambridge
Client: Brookgate CB1 Ltd
For the space at the heart of the CB1 development in Cambridge, RMA has produced detailed proposals for a new Station Square, incorporating generous public spaces and an integrated transport interchange.
The design creates a space of civic scale and dignity and a new gateway into Cambridge. Landscape elements including trees, paving, sculpture and low stone seats will be used to subdivide the space, direct traffic and create security for the station building.
A large part of the square will be free of traffic and will function as a flexible recreational space, animated by fountains, street cafes and retail frontages. A grid of new tree planting will give structure and coherence to the space, as well as frame views and create vistas.
